Welcome

Welcome to Year 3! This year marks the end of KS1 as children move into KS2, opening up new possibilities to broaden their knowledge, skills and understanding throughout the curriculum. We will continue to develop children’s curiosity and nurture their passion and enthusiasm for learning. The Meet the Teacher PowerPoint can be found here

Here, you can find an overview of the Year 3 Curriculum. You can use this information to discuss with your child what they have learned and continue to support their learning at home.

What’s happening this half-term?

Maths:

• Addition and Subtraction
• Multiplication and division
• Starting to learn our 3 and 4 times tables.

English:

Talk for Writing unit: Orion and the Dark

Talk for Writing unit: Instructions

Geography: The River Mersey.

We will be learning about the features of a river and looking at where The River Mersey flows.

Knowledge Organiser

Science: Light and shadows.

We will be looking at sources of light, how we see and how shadows are formed.

Art and Design: Charcoal

We will look at how Laura McKendry uses charcoal to show tone and we will then use it ourselves.

Computing: Stop Motion Animation.

We see how pictures can move and produce a stop motion animation.

Religious Education: Who is a Hindu and what do they believe in?

We will look different aspects of the Hindu faith.

We will be learning the names of classroom things, e.g. pens, pencils etc.

P.E:

Remember to come into school wearing your PE kit on the following days.

• Outdoor Games - Friday

Kit: Trainers, black shorts or tight-fitting black leggings, and a plain white t-shirt (a tracksuit top and joggers may be worn if cold)

• Dance and Gymnastics - Tuesday
  
  We will be learning how to use the four basic moves travelling, rolling, weight on hands and jumping
  Kit: Black shorts or tight-fitting black leggings and a plain white t-shirt.

Forest Schools:

We will be learning in the Forest School next half term. Please ensure your child comes on clothes that can get muddy, sensible outdoor shoes, warm clothes if cold and a water-proof coat.

Reading:

In class we are currently reading:

Please read with your child every day and comment in their reading record when you do. Reading books should be in school everyday for independent reading and will be changed regularly.

Homework:

Spellings will be sent out every Friday to learn for a spelling test the following Friday (3B) and sent out every Thursday to learn for a spelling test the following Thursday (3B Fridays).
