Welcome
Welcome to Year 3! This year marks the end of KS1 as children move into KS2, opening up new possibilities to broaden their knowledge, skills and understanding throughout the curriculum. We will continue to develop children’s curiosity and nurture their passion and enthusiasm for learning.
Here, you can find an overview of the Year 3 Curriculum. You can use this information to discuss with your child what they have learned and continue to support their learning at home.
What’s happening this half-term?
Maths:
- Place Value and the number system
- Addition and subtraction
English:
Talk for Writing unit: Stone Age Boy - Portal Story
Talk for Writing unit: Portable Paradise - Poem
History: Was more achieved in the Bronze Age than the Stone Age?
We will be learning the early achievements on people in Great Britain
Science: Rocks, Soils and Fossils.
We will be looking at the names of different types rocks and how they are formed. We aill be also looking at how fossils and soils are formed.
Design Technology: Bread.
We will make a healthy, visually interesting bread roll .
Computing: We are programmers.
We will use Scratch to programme an animation of a Knock Knock joke.
Religious Education: Who is a Jewish and what do they believe in?
We will look at the fundamentals of the Jewish faith and how they celebrate.
PHSE:
Belonging to a community Respecting ourselves and others Keeping safe |
Music:
- Timing beats
- Instrument focus: recorders
French: Introducing French.
We will be learning the numbers 0-6, greetings and classroom phrases
P.E:
Remember to come into school wearing your PE kit on the following days.
- Outdoor Games - Friday
Kit: Trainers, black shorts or tight-fitting black leggings, and a plain white t-shirt (a tracksuit top and joggers may be worn if cold)
- Dance and Gymnastics - Tuesday
Kit: Black shorts or tight-fitting black leggings and a plain white t-shirt.
Forest Schools:
Forest Schools for Year 3 will be updated here soon. Please ensure your child comes on clothes that can get muddy, sensible outdoor shoes, warm clothes if cold and a water-proof coat.
Reading:
In class we are currently reading:
3HL

Please read with your child every day and comment in their reading record when you do. Reading books should be in school everyday for independent reading and will be changed on these days: Tuesday and Friday.
Homework:
Spellings will be sent out every Friday to learn for a spelling test the following Friday.
