Welcome

Welcome to Year 3! This year marks the end of KS1 as children move into KS2, opening up new possibilities to broaden their knowledge, skills and understanding throughout the curriculum. We will continue to develop children’s curiosity and nurture their passion and enthusiasm for learning. The Meet the Teacher PowerPoint can be found here

Here, you can find an overview of the Year 3 Curriculum. You can use this information to discuss with your child what they have learned and continue to support their learning at home.

 

What’s happening this half-term?

Maths:

  • Properties of shape

  • Addition and subtraction

English:

Talk for Writing unit: Diary entry

Geography: Mountains.

We will be learning about features of mountains and the location of the world's highest mountains

Science: Bones and muscles.

We will be looking the different bones and muscles, as well as their function.

Art and Design: Collage.

We will look at how to create a positive and negative space collage and look at famous artists.

Computing: We are bug fixers.

We will identify different types of programming bugs and fix them.


Religious Education: What religions teach us about right and wrong?

We will look at different religions and how they share the Golden Rule of right and wrong.

French: Introducing French.

We will be learning the names of classroom things, e.g. pens, pencils etc.


P.E:

Remember to come into school wearing your PE kit on the following days.

  • Outdoor Games - Friday

Kit: Trainers, black shorts or tight-fitting black leggings, and a plain white t-shirt (a tracksuit top and joggers may be worn if cold)

  • Dance and Gymnastics/Outdoor Adventure- Tuesday

     Kit: Black shorts or tight-fitting black leggings and a plain white t-shirt.

Forest Schools:

Forest Schools for Year 3 will be given a date shortly - check emails from school . Please ensure your child comes on clothes that can get muddy, sensible outdoor shoes, warm clothes if cold and a water-proof coat.

Please read with your child every day and comment in their reading record when you do. Reading books should be in school everyday for independent reading and will be changed regularly.
