Welcome
Welcome to Year 3! This year marks the end of KS1 as children move into KS2, opening up new possibilities to broaden their knowledge, skills and understanding throughout the curriculum. We will continue to develop children’s curiosity and nurture their passion and enthusiasm for learning.
Here, you can find an overview of the Year 3 Curriculum. You can use this information to discuss with your child what they have learned and continue to support their learning at home.
What’s happening this half-term?
Maths:
- Measuring mass in g and Kg
- Starting to learn our 3 and 4 times tables.
English:
Talk for Writing unit: The Magic Paintbrush
Talk for Writing unit: A persuasive letter
Geography: Rivers around the world.
We will be learning 5 of the world's major rivers.
Science: Plants.
We will be looking at the structure and life cycle of a plant.
Art and Design: Making 3D models.
We will look at how to sculpt a 3D animal using a frame and mod-rock.
Computing: We film makers.
We will create a short film using recording and editing.
Religious Education: How different religions celebrate life as a journey?
We will look at different religions and how they celebrate significant pasts of a person's life.
PHSE:
- Building resiliance and being safe online - Knowledge Organiser
Music:
- Beats (timing)
- Instrument focus: African Drums
French: Introducing French.
We will be learning the names of classroom things, e.g. pens, pencils etc.
P.E:
Remember to come into school wearing your PE kit on the following days.
- 3B Outdoor Games - Friday
- 3SL Outdoor Games - Monday
Kit: Trainers, black shorts or tight-fitting black leggings, and a plain white t-shirt (a tracksuit top and joggers may be worn if cold)
- Dance and Gymnastics - Thursday
We will be learning how to use the four basic moves travelling, rolling, weight on hands and jumping.
Kit: Black shorts or tight-fitting black leggings and a plain white t-shirt.
Forest Schools:
We will let you know the date for Forest Schools. Please ensure your child comes on clothes that can get muddy, sensible outdoor shoes, warm clothes if cold and a water-proof coat.
Reading:
In class we are currently reading:
Please read with your child every day and comment in their reading record when you do. Reading books should be in school everyday for independent reading and will be changed on these days: Tuesday and Friday.
Homework:
3SL's spellings will be sent out every Friday to learn for a spelling test the following Friday.
3B's spellings will be sent out on Friday to learn for a spelling test the following Tuesday.
